There are few more engaging and genuinely pleasant neighborhoods on the Left Bank than the environs of the rue des Saint-Pères. As it makes its narrow way between the Seine and boulevard Saint-Germain this ancient little street forms the border between the 6th and 7th arrondissements. The immediately surrounding area benefits from a fine mix of the style and intellectual energy of the 6th, home to bustling cafés, countless bookstores and galleries and smart boutiques, with the stateliness and stone-and-wrought-iron elegance of the 7th, an arrondissement that will be forever linked with the names of the many haute bourgeoisie, near-nobility and nationally known literary figures who dwell there.
In this curious little pocket, and practically within a stone's throw of both the Musée d'Orsay and the busy and ever-intriguing boulevard Saint-Germain, and only the breadth of the Seine away from the Louvre and Jardin des Tuileries, lies the tranquil little rue de Beaune.
Upon pressing in a digicode at the massive front door one climbs two flights of stairs, or takes the newly installed elevator, to the second French floor of this 19-century building and finds an apartment of 56 square meters (600 square feet) that has been decorated with great charm. Several full-length windows, with a variety of orientations, allow for plenty of natural light and cross-ventilation. Each window is outfitted with shutters if one desires to increase the privacy and warmth of the property.
The entrance of the apartment deposits one directly into the newly renovated kitchen, with eat-in dining area. The cabinets and drawers are of the finest quality and self-close. The induction cook top with three burners and full electric oven will please even the most discriminating cook. Other features of the kitchen include a dishwasher, washing machine, and separate dryer. There is no dishwasher. The dine-in kitchen has a round table that accommodates four for a meal. A small buffet and bar allow for additional counter space. On the same wall as the main door, is a set of closets and a small writing desk with a high-speed internet connection.
Beyond this middle room is a small hall that leads to the bedroom. The full bathroom is just outside of the bedroom. Also recently renovated, it has a high-ceiling and offers a broad, brightly-lit vanity with plenty of space for personal effects, a sink, WC, and an oversized walk-in shower stall.
The bedroom, which faces an airshaft and is thus very quiet, has a queen-sized bed and large built-in closets. The ambiance of this room is soft and cozy from the fabric-covered walls, flowered bedspread and wall-to-wall carpeting.
To the right of the entrance is the living room, a good-sized room by Parisian standards, which is furnished principally with antiques. There are colorful throw rugs over the parquet floors and flowered drapes on the full-length windows that overlook rue de Beaune. Over the marble mantle of an original, but decorative, fireplace is a huge gilded mirror that serves to increase the visual size of the salon, the walls of which are painted a neutral tone and emphasized with red accents. A red-upholstered love seat (that converts to a pull-out double sofa bed for use at an additional charge) and several armchairs create a seating area, fine for entertaining or for a enjoying a bit of entertainment on the flat-screen TV housed in the wall of built-in bookshelves. Beside a large armoire, and just near the entrance to the salon, is a door that leads to a half bathroom with sink and toilet.
Another benefit of this charming apartment its proximity to patisseries, épiceries and other small shops for daily necessaries within the neighborhood. The Métro stations of rue du Bac and Solférino are almost equidistant.
NOTE: The owner of this apartment respectfully declines to rent to smokers.
